Edinburgh is one of the most navigable and pretty cities I have ever visited. The history, cobbled streets and iconic castle overlooking the area makes it one of the most sought after destinations in Europe.

If you want to visit the city without being plagued with large groups of stag/hen parties then visit during the week. The nightlife in Edinburgh makes it an extremely popular destination with party enthusiasts.

Expect to pay around £10 – £15 GBP/night for a hostel dorm, Edinburgh isn’t the most expensive place to visit but you can easily lose track of your budget with those fine Scotch whisky’s. Even though Edinburgh has some of the finest walks imaginable, it can make for difficult treks thanks to its hilly landscape. An all day bus ticket costs £4 GBP or hire out bicycles for around £15 GBP/day.

My main point of concern with Edinburgh is the cost of the castles entrance. £16.50 GBP. Too much from my perspective, but maybe I have just been spoilt growing up in Europe.

Visit Edinburgh for New Years Day to celebrate Hogmanay. You will have to book this far in advance because thousands of people arrive here to bring in the New Year and fill their bellies with delicious whisky.
