Australia is an expensive country for backpackers to visit, but that doesn’t seem to discourage people from flocking to the large and mostly desolate island of red sand and modern cities.

Thanks to Australia’s incredibly diverse landscape you can soak up some of the worlds finest beaches, get lost in the concrete jungles that run along the coast, or venture inland and explore the spiritual indigenous outback.

A mixed hostel dorm on the east coast will set you back $30 AUD minimum per night, and don’t expect any bargains to be found in groceries or any other expenditure. Hence why most backpackers make a working holiday out of Australia.
